can cps remove a child from a home that the mother chose?

a friend of mine gave birth to a baby on 8-1-2005...cps agreed with the mother to place this child in my care.CPS then signed her over to me...the baby is now 3 months old..and cps states they need to do an immediate removal...due to the fact i am not a relative...i am a close friend...do they have the right to remove her fron my home?? This is the only home this baby knows...I am the only mother she knows too...please help

There is so much more information an attorney would need to be able to properly advise you. It is imperative that you retain an attorney immediately, if you want any hope of keeping this baby. PROBABLY, CPS had a court order making them the managing conservator. That would give them all of the rights, and practically none to you. This is a complicated and complex area, and you need a family lawyer. TCL
