Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Criminal Non-Compliance for Child Support

My ex owes over $30K in child support which is being handled by the Texas Attorney General's Office. The children are now 15 & 16. The Harris County DA is looking into filing Criminal Non-Compliance charges. What happens with this, what all does this entail?

Re: Criminal Non-Compliance for Child Support

Criminal charges can only be brought by the District Attorney's Office. If they feel that they can prove all of the elements of the criminal charge beyond a reasonabe doubt, they may well bring criminal charges. The Attorney General's Office can assist in enforcing nonpayment of child support, but sometimes a private attorney can get the matter resolved quicker. Contact me if you care to discuss the matter further.
