Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

custodial grandparents

My husband & I have had full managerial custody of our granddaughter for more than 5 years. she lives full time with us. We receive no child support from either parent. We have been denied claiming her as an exemption on federal income tax, and denied any child tax credit. Is there a law that address this?

Re: custodial grandparents

Do you have a court order naming you as conservators for the child? If so, that is sufficient to establish your right to the exemption and the credit. You need to talk to a tax lawyer to get that changed.

If you do not have a court order, get a family lawyer to file for conservatorship.
