How old does a child have to be in order to decide with whom he/she wishes to reside w? In CA. and TX.?

In California 18. However the child's preference can be considered by the court.

The court will take many factors into consideration, including the child's preference so long as it's based on matured reason. Age is up to the court, but 14 is typically considered old enought. it's not a magic age. even at 14, the court will look at the other factors, but may look at preference--and maturity.
