Can a child who is ten years old ask to change custody from his mother to his father?

There are no provisions in the law for minors of any age to seek a change in primary conservatorship. A child may state a preference during conservatorship proceedings, but the choice has no real legal effect. Such a statement of preference is taken into account along with the totality of circumstances in such proceedings.
