Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

custody

i live in texas and my exgirlfriend and son live in ohio. i pay child support and as far as i know there is no custody papers on my son. i would like custody at least joint custody of my son, what do i need to do and can i get help as i am a young father wanting to be with my son but can't afford a lot of legal fees.

You are going to need to contact an attorney in Ohio, to establish paternity and obtain parental rights to your son. In Texas, it is called a Suit Affecting Parent-Child Relationship (SAPCR), and I expect that Ohio has a similar proceeding.

If you are paying Court ordered child support you may very well already have custody rights you don't know about. In many states you don't do one without the other. Get a certified copy of the court order and review it with a good family law attorney.
