custody mother abandoned child

I have a 3 year old son. His mother has been out of his life since he was 2 weeks old, what must be done in order to get full legal custody

If you are married to her, you need to file for divorce and seek primary conservatorship. If unmarried, then file a Suit Affecting Parent-Child Relationship, also seeking primary conservatorship. File a "suit affecting the parent-child relationship" and have the mother served with notice of the lawsuit.
