Does dad have to pay child support if child lives with dad temporary?

Mother has custody of 14yr old. Dad has family of his own (wife,step-kids). 14yr old wants to live with dad. Dad doesn't think 14yr old would like because if his strickness. Dad says for 14yr old to live with him for a year to try out. Does dad still have to pay child support?
