Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Dating before divorce is final

I have been married for 13 years. My wife and I are seperated now and filing for a divorce. My question is, does my divorce have to be final before I can start dating again?

Dating can be very risky if visitation or custody of children becomes contested. The contest becomes not so much about a new relationship because most courts understand the natural human need to be with another. Usually, the focus of the ex becomes what did you do with your new partner after the lights were out and were the children aware that you were in a bedroom with a new partner and were they aware of what you were doing. Or worse, did the children see what you were doing.

The other consideration becomes did you spend any community funds entertaining your new partner. If you can survive these inquiries, then go for it. If you don't want to be involved in answering these questions, better wait til the ink dries on the final order.
