Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

dating laws

i am currently friends with a 16 yr old girl, i am 19. her parents are getting a divorce and her parents knows that i would like to date her. We have agreed to not have sex until marriage and her mom knows that. since the divorce started she went to live with her father and he will have custody of her. is there anything her mother can do to get me in trouble? Her father says its ok for me to see her. would I be able to be ''protected'' from her mother by her father since he will have custody of her? We think that she might try to get back at her for testifying against her in the divorce hearing by trying to get me in trouble. What can i do?

Re: dating laws

You are an adult dating a minor child. You must abide by the wishes of the parent that has legal custody of the child.

I strongly urge you not to do anything "sexual" with this child.

I'd stay "friends" with her until she turns 18 and is considered by the law to be an adult.

People only call me when things go wrong. So my opinion is somewhat negative. If her mom is mad at you, she can "allege" something criminal has occurred. For example, how do you prove that you did NOT hit the mother if she calls the cops. If you can prove that you have an alabi for the time of the "hitting" then you would prevail. Of course, you'd need to hire an attorney to assist you win your case. Therefore, I would be very careful.

Good luck!
