You have three choices:

1. CONSERVATORSHIP: You can file a suit affecting the parent-child relationship and ask the court to appoint you as the sole managing conservator of the child. This is probably the easiest to do, but if a father shows up, it is the easiest to undo.

2. GUARDIANSHIP: You can file a suit in probate court to become the children's legal guardian. You would ask to be the guardian of their person and the guardian of there estates. This is a little longer process, gives you a lot of power, and is harder to undo.

3. ADOPTION: You could try to adopt the children. That is a longer process, but it gives you absolute control over the children and it is impossible to undo. That means that a late-arriving father cannot take the kids from you, but you can't get rid of them either.

Good luck! You are a blessing to these children!
