Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My daughter is 9 months pregnant and the father of the baby has not had much contact with her during this pregnancy. He has in no way contributed any money or help to us. We want to know what is the best thing to do to make sure he has no rights to this child. He has no residence, lives place to place and even lives with another woman right now. We are not putting his name on the birth ceritficate. Should we obtain a lawyer and get any other legal help.

Yes, you absolutely need to hire a lawyer for your daughter. If he is established as the biological father, it is unlikely that he will be denied his parental rights. Being a bum is not enough of a reason to terminate his parental rights. Depending upon his lifestyle, it may be enough to restrict or supervise his possession/access. There are many issues to consider, and all of them will come into play when the child is born. Being prepared will ease everyone's concerns. Good luck.
