Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
my daughter
i let my 1 yr old daughter stay the night at my in laws and the next norning they text messaged my husband to say they were going on vacation out of state and that they were taking my daughter. we called repeatedly for two days with no reponse. my mother in law called at that time and said for my husband to come pick up his daughter . we have no vehicle so he took a cab and called them outside their house to tell to bring his daughter out and his step-father at that time told him he called the police. the police arrested my husband on a bad check warrant from 1998 and his parents put a tresspassing warrant against us. they then went out of state w/out or permission for 10 days. when i knew they had returned i called the police here in lubbock, texas to help me get my daughter from them and my in laws refused to come to the door. my mother in law called cps on me and told them we were on drugs and cps did an investigation and drug test that came out negative. but the same day that i called the law to get my daughter my in laws waited for the police to leave and went and filed child custody papers angainst me and my husband. they served him jail. what can i do on my own. i must reply within 20 days.

Unless you are a lawyer, I don't know what you can do on your own. Sounds like your in-laws might have some details to tell the judge. Unless you can find some real, smart lawyer who could find an angle to collect attorneys fees from your in-laws (not very likely), you'd better get real busy, real fast and do what you have to do to hire a lawyer. Otherwise, the outcome is predictable.

I sell "answers" for $25 cash.
If you have no funds, you can call a pro bono organization in your county and see if they will help you.
You can visit my website for links to finding a pro bono attorney. www.familylaw4u.com and look under "links".
Or go to the State Bar of Texas website and look for pro bono organizations.
The problem is with trying to get free services is -- the agencies are swamped. You might have to wait months to get assigned an attorney.
Of course, I agree with James Grissom that you need to find an attorney ASAP.
Otherwise, you must be able to represent yourself in court and put on evidence and make objections.
You are not entitled to a free attorney assigned through the court unless you are looking at jail time or terminating your parental rights.
