Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Dear attorney, a friend of mine got married in Texas (he is a US citizen and a Texas resident, so Texas has personal jurisdiction over him) to a woman from Kazakhstan, and he tells me that he has hard time divorcing her, in fact she blackmails him for money in exchange for her divorce consent. She is presently in Kazakhstan. I did not ask for details, but he is shopping for a divorce lawyer in Houston, and I kind of have hard time believing his story. I think it is possible to divorce from her through a contested divorce, though I am not sure about all the jurisdictional issues here.... I would be happy to forward your email and phone number to my friend for further discussion of the case,

Many thanks,

Ivan K.

If he married her in Texas, and they lived together in Texas, he can divorce her in a Texas Court. The only problem is getting her served in Kazakhstan; however, this isn't really a problem. Lawyers have been getting people served in foreign countries for a long time.

After she is served, she can fight it or not fight it, but the fight should be in Texas.
