Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Death certificate

My mother was divorced for many years and her ex husband died. His name was never removed from her house deed. How can she find a copy of his death certificate if she does not know the state in the US where he died? She does not have a copy of the divorce decree either. Where can she get that?

Re: Death certificate

Then how did she know he was dead? Who told her? That person might know where he died. Does he have any surviving family? Maybe they know where he died. If that doesn't work, maybe you can do an affidavit of heirship, but doesn't sound like you have enough details. You can get a copy of the divorce decree in the county where they were divorced.

Re: Death certificate

Your mother can get a copy of the divorce decree from the probate court in the county she was divorced.

If you may be able to do a people search to find out the state her ex died in as well as the town and county and you may be able to order a certified copy of the death certificate for recording.

Good Luck
