Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I am delinquent on child support payments, the child has reached emancipation age and monthly payments are still being withheld from my social security check by the state of Illinois. Social security is requiring that I provide a bank account for direct deposit of my funds. My question is: Can the state of Illinois freeze my bank account? This would force me to become homeless as the $509.00 social security income is the only income asset I have.

The past due child support debt never goes away. Plus, there is the 6% interest - that is what is "killing" you.
The good news is that now that the child is over 18 you cannot go to jail.
Go on-line & look at what you owe. You can set up an account on-line & monitor your account.
You need to negotiate with the AG & lower your monthly payments.
Any bank that has your social security number can be "attached" by the AG's computer. No human will be involved. Their computers search daily for any money you have to "grab". If you inherit any money, they will "grab" that money too.
Basically, it's a nightmare for you.
You might want to talk to a local family law attorney about your options. Look on this website or on www.avvo.com for a family law attorney. Many offer a free consultation.
