The clerks are not attorneys and therefore cannot provide legal services to you. The Judges cannot give legal advice either. It is your responsibility to know the laws of the State of Texas and how they apply in your particular case.

Some courts offer assistance to pro se plaintiffs -- most don't because there is no state money to hire such people.

It sounds like you need help. I would strongly urge you to retain the services of an attorney.

There are some free legal services available throughout Texas. You can look on the internet, phone book or the State Bar of Texas in Austin, Texas. There are many books in bookstores about doing your own divorce in Texas -- some are accurate -- some are completely wrong and a complete waste of time and money.

You can go to any law library and try to figure out what you are doing.

If you live in the Houston area, I offer a free phone consultation. I will tell you over the phone what my hourly rate is (based on your monthly income and number of dependents).

Good luck!
