Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Divorcce and legal advice
My spouse and I both have separate attorneys. My attorney will no longer work my divorce until I pay the balance of 3100 or give him another retainer. The decree is completed and only needs minor changes then appear in court to file.
My attorney will not agree to a payment plan despite me paying the balance of over 8000 up until now.I have told him I no longer want his representation. Can my spouse dismiss his attorney as well and we finish/file on our own.Am I bound somehow to my attorney if I haven't paid the balance even if I do not hire another attorney? My attorney would not even discuss a payment plan and just stopped working on the my case and it is almost finished. If I do not pay the balance in full and continue to just make payments --what will happen?
Can I just file the decree myself?
HELP!! This divorce has been drug out over 18 months;my spouse and I have finally reached an agreement and now this!!

Re: Divorcce and legal advice
I am not going to give you legal advice, because you are already represented by attorneys. I do want to comment that you and your spouse fought for 18 months, and two sets of attorneys represented your interests to the point where you were able to reach a compromise and an agreement. It seems to me that those two attorneys are entitled to compensation for that achievement. It also apparent to me that you could not have represented yourself, because now that the attorney has done all the work, you don't want to pay him, you want to get free legal advice on how to proceed on your own.
