Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

divorce annulments

In the state of Texas can a divorce be annuled? and if so, do you then have to be remarried, or are you just still married? And can you keep a marriage license confidential?

Re: divorce annulments

The State of Texas has limited grounds for annulment.

If a marriage is annuled, then the marriage is ended.

I believe that marriage licenses are public records.

Good luck!

Re: divorce annulments

First, the marriage licenses are public record, maintained by the county clerk in each county. I don't find any provision to keep or remove a marriage license from the public records, but if there is a very compelling reason, there might be a way. (Would require additional research)

Annulment is covered in Subchapter B of the Dissolution of Marriage section of the Texas Family Code. There are several grounds for an annulment, but they are also very strict. In order to determine if your situation qualifies for an annulment, you would need to have a consultation with an attorney in your location that practices in the area of family law.
