getting a divorce with children involved

My husband is a violent man. The last time that he hit me I had him arrested and I came to my mothers house. My husband currently lives in Patchogue New York. And I moved to my mothers house in Austin Texas. How do I file for divorce, custody of the children and child support?

You stated that your husband is violent and has hit you. The first thing you should do is go to your local district attorney and request a protective order. Then you should hire an attorney to help with your divorce. By the time the divorce is finalized, you will need to have lived in that county for 90 days and the State of Texas for 6 months.
