Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

divorce and credit cards

My husband was divorced over 6 years ago,got all debt, over $120,000, had to pay his exwife $25,000. She - no debt, and $25.000 in her pocket. He got to keep the house. We debt managed his debt, all except one credit card. That credit card was in her name. He was an authorized user. 4 yrs after divorce, the credit card company received the payment late. They doubled the interest rate, and double then tripled the payment. The payment went from $300/mnth (which we could afford), to $1800 (could not). My husband tried for 3 mnths to deal with the company & they would not talk to him because the card was not in his name. He and his ex cannot talk without screaming at each other. We stopped payment on the card completely. Three months later she called and, again screaming, wanted to know why he was being negligent. He asked her to have the company put the card in his name or to deal with him so payments could be worked out. She refused. One year later, she is suing him for contempt of the divorce decree. All the other debt has been paid. We cannot come up with the amount being demanded. What recourse does my husband have?

Re: divorce and credit cards

Hire a lawyer to get this matter mediated. It is ridiculous to take this to trial, when an afternoon with a mediator can resolve it.
