Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Divorce and a family Business (Inc.)

I am getting ready to file for divorce after almost 25 years of marriage. My husband and his family have a business in which my husband is president and major stockholder;I do not work outside the home. Am I entitled to any money from the business and if so what percent of the company or yearly sales would be a fair split or how shall I go about figuring it out? I suspect that there may be hidden trusts and so forth. What should I expect? I would appreciate any insite you might have.

Thank you so much!

Re: Divorce and a family Business (Inc.)

You definitely need to find yourself a good family lawyer in your area. Your are entitled to 1/2 of your H's interest in the family owned business. To expect them to deliver this to your doorstep is hardly likely. I would expect that they would try to hide and make difficult to find the assets which are 1/2 yours. You will definitely have a long-term fight on your hands. What you get will depend on how aggressive your lawyer is, how you are going to pay him/her and how strong a person you are.
