Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My divorce was final in 2002 and I was awarded 6500.00 as attorney fees. "To be paid to my attorney as back child support.". She (my attorney), actually filed a lien against me and I paid her the debt incurred from all my ex husbands appeals from the divorce. Then I received a release of judgement from my attorney. I filed that release at the Harris county court house. I have tried to collect this money from my ex husband sending him a certified letter requesting response but he just ignores it. My attorney is no longer in practice in Houston and has moved to Wyoming. How can I collect this award from the courts from him?

I think you're telling us that you have a judgment against your ex-husband for attorney's fees.

1. Go to the district clerk's office (in the county where the judgment was given) and ask them to issue a writ of execution. It will cost about $10.

2. Take the writ of execution to the sheriff of the county where your ex lives and ask them to "run" it. The fee will be about $100.

I did this recently in my county for a $6000 judgment (for attorney's fees). The man in question called me yesterday, and is going to bring me a cashier's check.
