Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My divorce was final one two months ago and my ex spouse said he would help pay for my 19 year old daughters college courses but has since remarried and his new wife will not let him help anymore. She lives with me and I help as much as possible but can not afford the total cost. It was not put in the divorce decree that he help with her school because he had told her he would help. Is there any law that he has to help financially with her school?

Sorry, no. Hate to say it, but your daughter is not the first or the last child who is going to have to figure out how to pay for college herself. Texas has no laws that require a parent to help pay for their children college.

Based on what you have written, there is no Texas law which will require a parent to help pay for college. You daughter may wish to seek assistance through student loans or grants. If my law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact us at [email protected] to arrange for an initial consultation.
