Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
If your divorce is final and it took place in a county in Texas and I need to take my ex back to court, can you do this in a different county? After the Judge granted me temporary custody, I moved to a different county in Texas. Both my ex-spouse and I have lived in this county for over a year and have setup permanent residence. Will I be able to go to court in the county we currently live in, or will I have to go back to the county our divorce was originally filed in? Thank you!

The original court retains jurisdiction until the case is transferred. The usual procedure is to file in the original court and include a Motion to Transfer to the county where the child has lived for over 6 months. The transfer is mandatory but can take some time.
