Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Divorce

I have a friend who is here illegally from Mexico. She is married in Mexico and wants to get divorced. Her and her husband have come to an agreement of getting the divorce. They also have a house but no children. Does she have to file in Mexico or can she get and file for a divorce here in the US?

Re: Divorce

If she has lived in Texas for at least 6 months and in Harris county for 90 days, she can file here.

Be advised that if there is property in Mexico, a U.S. court does not have jurisdiction over any property in Mexico.

If it is all agreed to then I offer a Do It Yourself Divorce for $150. Harris county filing fees is approx. $158. Those are the only costs associated with a divorce - except for parking downtown ($10 or more)!!

Call me if you are interested.

WARNING -- some of the kits available on-line will not work in Texas. There might be some that are complete but clients have given me many sets that are a complete waste of money.
