Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
divorce and home deeds
My husband and I did extensive remodeling work on his mothers home when she moved into a nursing home in 2004. My soon to be married daughter moved into the home. My mother in law passed away later that year and the home was then deeded to my husband and myself. In early 2005 I separated from my husband. At our divorce I offered to deed my portion of the house to him without compensation. He then put my daughter out of the home and moved in himself.Within a year he sold the home for over $20,000+ over what my mother in law paid. I thought he was going to give the home to my daughter. I put a lien on the home for $5000. for my investment in improving the home through labor and materials. I was paid this at closing. My ex. is now suing me for this amount plus interest and attorneys fees.

I am not sure what your question is. By what legal process were you authorized to put a $5000 lien on the house? If there are not additional facts supporting your actions, then he might prevail in his lawsuit. He may be a crummy person, but from what you state, he may have a superior position.
