Re: Divorce
First, your safety should be your first priority. You need to be in a safe place if you fear for your physical well-being. If you have no safe place to go, and you fear for your safety then call a woman's shelter (check the phone book or call the United Way) and they will keep you in an undisclosed location. For some reason, people assume that is abandonment -- it is not abandonment if you are afraid that you will be killed or injured.
Second, you are entitled to approximately 50% of all assets and liabilities that are community property. This is a general statement and you should not rely on it. You need to talk to an attorney about your specific situation.
Any separate property (such as inheritance, gifts) belong to that individual and is not considered in the division of debts or assets.
Again, you need to talk to someone about your specific situation.
