Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I got a divorce a number of years ago, and my ex just contacted me wanting me to sign papers, so he could get refinancing on a home we used to own together. He was awarded the house in the divorce, and is remarried again. Now he is calling asking me to sign papers, telling me my name is still on the deed, and he can't get the house refinanced unless I sign papers, removing my name. Does this sound right? I don't think I can trust him so need some legal advice.

What should have happened in the divorce is that you should have been required to remove your name from the deed and he should have been required to refinance it right away. What often happens, particularly when attorneys are not involved in the divorce, is that the award of the property is made and nothing else happens.

You're right to be concerned, especially if you don't know what he is asking you to sign. Contact a family law attorney in your area ASAP.
