Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

divorce settlement

I divorced my ex-husband in 1999. The Judge ordered that I receive 50% of his retirement, and 50% of his life insurance. To date I have received nothing on this order - how do I go about seeking compensation?

It was your obligation to see that a proper QDRO (Qualified Domestic Relations Order) was prepared, approved by the Plan, signed by the Court and filed with the Plan to secure your share of his retirement. You need to get a good family law attorney to prepare the QDRO for you.

Re: divorce settlement

Based on what you have written, you might want to verify that a QRDO (Qualified Domestic Relations Order) was approved by the plan and entered by the Court. The QRDO basically asserts your interest in the retirement plan. You may want to consider talking to a local family law firm. If my local family law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact us at [email protected] to arrange for a consultation.
