Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Divorce

My wife filed for divorce. I was served with the original petition. There are some things in the petition that I don't agree with dealing with amount of support and visitation. Should I have this corrected before I sign and notarize this document? She keeps saying I only need to sign and notarize to show I received it and then everything else can be changed later on. Is this true? I am in Dallas County, Texas.

Re: Divorce

You wife obviously filed a Petition for Divofce.

She wants you to sign and have notarized a "waiver of service".

You must read this waiver carefully. It probably says that you don't want any more notifications from the court. If it does, then she can put whatever she wants in the FINAL DECREE OF DIVORCE.

The FINAL DECREE OF DIVORCE is what the judge signs and it controls.

I suggest that you want to read that document and sign it to make sure that the judge signs what you agree to do.

I don't know what county the divorce was filed in. I sell a document called an ANSWER for $25 that works in any county in Texas. It tells the Judge that you want to be involved in your divorce.

If the divorce is around Houston, I'd be glad to help you.

Otherwise, look on this site for an attorney that can help you in the county where the divorce was filed.

Re: Divorce

I know that you signed a waiver of service, but did you sign the final decree of divorce?
