divorced or not?

My husband (petitioner)and I (respondent) were divorced in Feb.2004. I am questioning whether our divorce is legal and final because he made comment to me that he didnt sign our final divorce decree, his lawyer signed on his behalf. my question is that legal and can his lawyer sign a final decree of divorce on his behalf. the marriage was between him and me and we both had to sign our marriage certificate, why shouldnt we both have to sign our divorce decree.please advise and help. i do not want to be divorced, and wish we were still married.

Re: divorced or not?

Basically, in Texas, the only signature that matters is the Judge's.

Often people refuse to sign the paperwork thinking that they can prevent a divorce. It does not work.

If an attorney has permission of a client, the attorney can sign on behalf of his/her client. I don't recommend it but it does happen occasionally.

Good luck!
