Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I've been divorced legally for 6 years, but still obtain my marriage last. Since my divorced I've been wanting to change my last name back to my maiden. How do I change my last name back to my maiden last without being charged or will there ba charge for me to change it back?

You could have had your name changed back to your maiden name as part of the divorce decree when your divorce was finalized. In order to change it now, you will have to file a Petition for Change of Name in your county court, pay the associated filing fee (typically around $250), and appear for a brief hearing to obtain a court order changing your name.

Fortunately, changing your name is a relatively simple process in Texas, as long as you follow the correct procedure and meet all of the requirements. (If you are interested, I offer all of the documents you need, plus any legal advice needed to complete the process, through my online law office at www.perezlawonline.com.)

I agree with Robert Perez.

You missed your opportunity for your "free" name change in the Divorce Decree. Now you have to pay for it.

Sorry!
