Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I was divorced over 10 years ago I owe him $800 for a credit card we had together. He has paid off the credit card and closed the account but wants to take me to court for the $800. Is there a statute of limitations on that or can he really sue me after all this time?

Anyone can sue you for any time for any reason.

Winning, however, is completely different.

He would first have to prove that you owed him that debt. That might be harder than you imagine. He would need something to prove that you were ordered to pay him that credit card debt.

Secondly, I think the statute of limitations has probably run -- I don't have books at home to look it up - sorry. You might go to the UH Law site - Richard Alderman's the People's Lawyer and see if he addresses it. I also think you can "google" statute of limitations & Texas. Or, go to the Harris County Law Library.

If you need legal representation and you don't have any money -- The 3 law schools also have legal clinics that might be able to help you - they have law school students that provide limited legal services on a pro bono (free) legal basis. Lastly, Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program (713-228-0732) might also be able to assist you.
