Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I divorced 4yrs ago and at the time I was youg and naive. I did not get a lawyer because I did not have any money to do so. I was a stay at home mom and he wouldn't give me any money.I did not know about how to get a court appointed attorney until after the fact. But he had one. He told me if the kids stay with him I can still have my rights as a parent and I can get myself back on my feet since i haven't worked for 5yrs when we were together. But that was rocky. I want to have my children live with me for a while until he starts working again and they want to live with me. I have thought about getting an attorney throughout the years, but was told I cannot get them back because he is the primary caregiver. The kids are 15,10 and 8. The grandparents have more rights than I do. Did I give away my rights as a parent permanently? I was never found to be a bad parent or anything I thought it was the right thing to do at the time. I should of done more research. This started in Ohio I am in Texas now I moved to better myself. They are with me every summer.

You have asked, "Did I give away my rights as a parent permanently?" We'd have to look at the order.
If the order is out of Ohio, and Dad and the kids still live in Ohio, then your modification suit would be filed there in Ohio.
