Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Divorcing parents

I'm an adult seeking to divorce my birth parents. They can see their grandchildren, but I wish to have no more legal ties to my parents. How can I do this?

Re: Divorcing parents

This is what I'd do:

1. Be sure to execute a will and all the other legal documents that the State of Texas has created (power of attorney for health care, directive to physician, power of attorney for financial decisions, designation of future guardian, designation of who will be responsible for your burial) and specially state that you do not want your parents to make any decisions for you. In your will, exclude them as a potential beneficiary.

2. Don't have any contact with them. Once you are 18, there is no law to force you to have contact with them.

3. If they can see your children, it will be difficult to avoid them.

4. There is no "divorce" of parents in Texas. It's not required or needed.

5. Move, change your phone numbers and ignore them.

Good luck!
