Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

''Dna testing''

I am an incarcerated mother wanting to find out who the father of my child is? Out of the two men I suspect one is in prison and the other resides in Texas. I am interested in DNA testing for these men and for my son.

Re: ''Dna testing''

DNA testing has come a long way. It is no longer a blood test - merely a swab of your mouth. The cost is still high - usually over $400.

The father and the child can be tested. Some companies also like to include the mother too.

The test will never 99% range. However, if a man is NOT the father, the test can exclude him.

They are so accurate thata set of twins slept with the same woman and the test was able to determine which twin was the father!

If you start an Attorney General case, the man that you suspect is the father has the right to ask for testing. The Attorney General can get it cheaper than anyone else since they have a contract with one company in Texas.

Different states are no longer a problem. The person is required to appear at the nearest collection site and the sample is sent to the location where the test results will be conducted. However, they might need to draw blood since the mouth swab don't last more than a few days.

Best of luck to you.
