Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Due to fights over money, and the fact that I wanted to establish credit in my own name and did just that, my husband got extremely mad and has now closed our savings accounts and set up his ouwn accounts. I currently do not have access to any cash and if I need it I have to ask him for it. He is the main bread winner since we moved here to TX for his job and I closed my business up north and came here to start it up again. What should I be doing here?

It sounds like you might be headed for divorce.

You might want to read my blog

There are many excellent websites in Texas that cover Texas divorces.

You can also visit my website for many links to Texas websites - www.familylaw4u.com

The Houston Bar Association has an excellent booklet on "family law" that is free.

It's approximately 50 pages so you might not want to print it out.

He sounds like he is violent so be very careful about what you print-out and about erasing your searches on the internet. I find that often "leaving" can be a very dangerous time. I'm not sure where you live in Texas. There are many agencies for "abused" women. You need to have a "safety plan" for you and your children.

If he controls all the money, an attorney can ask the judge to order him to help support you during the divorce and to help pay your legal fees. You need a tough attorney with a lot of experience in these sort of cases. I'd check out www.avvo.com for an attorney. This website was really popular a few years ago but www.avvo.com has gotten to be the "hot" website these days. Lastly, you need to go into counseling to re-establish your self-esteem, I find that most people don't even realize how "down" they are until 2 years after the divorce is finalized.

Good luck! Be careful! God's speed!
