How do I get my friend emancipated so that she can come and live with me in Alabama and how much does it cost?

Re: Emancipation

You could file a Petition to Remove the Disabilities of a Minor, but I doubt that moving to AL to live with you would be a good reason. Be prepared to show the Court why this would be a good idea. If you are over 18 and she is under 18, you will have some problems.

Mr. Grissom is correct.

You need to retain an attorney in the county of her residence. Depending on the circumstances of the emancipation, as well as her age, I would estimate the filing fees and process fees of approximately $500 to start. Attorney fees will again, depend upon the circumstances, but most would require a beginnning retainer of $1000, unless you can demonstrate that all the parties, including the parents were in agreement.
