Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Enforcement of Divorce

I was divorced in the NY state and moved to Texas 3 years ago. I am not receiving child support and am being told that I am not able to enforce the conditions of my NY divorce in the state of Texas. Is that correct? If so, am I at least able to apply for child support through the Texas Attorney General's Office?

Re: Enforcement of Divorce

You can ask the AG's office to enforce the order; however, they are very slow in doing so. I suggest you contact a lawyer in the state where your ex lives. Enforcement filed that way will be more expensive but quicker and more effective.

You can also retain an attorney here to register and petition to enforce your decree.
