Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

enforcing terms of divorce aggreement

Who would I contact to enforce a money matter concerning an agreement in my divorce that was court ordered? My ex-husband will not continue paying the premium on his life Ins. of which I am the owner. My alimony would cease after his death and the Ins. would be my only means of support other than a small SC check. I do not have the money to take him to court.

Thank you for your help

You must file a motion for enforcement/contempt - request a hearing and tell the judge that your ex is not abiding by the order. The judge may award attorneys fees, but you would still have to pay your attorney up front.

If you have a Judgment which is enforceable against your husband, and it sounds as if you do, then contacting a lawyer in the town in which your husband arrives is the first step. Have him/her take the matter on a contingent basis, meaning you owe nothing unless you collect money. There is no up=front cost to you this way.

Good luck.
