Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Hello! I am engaged to a woman with a 3 year old daughter. The biological father hasn't been in the picture since a couple months after conception and there is no father on the birth certificate. I have been caring for her daughter since she was one and consider her my own. After we get married what would be the best way to make her my legal daughter? I've seen that I can file for a new birth certificate with my name on it. And I can also adopt. Her birth certificate is from Virginia and we live in Texas.

What you'll need to do is (1) terminate the parental rights of the biological father and (2) adopt the child. You can do this in one petition (filed with the Court).
