Engagement Ring Entitlement?

I was formerly engaged but 3 months ago broke it off because he became abusive verbally and physically. I invested thousands of dollars into the wedding of my own money and am wondering do I have to return the ring or can I sell it and try and recoup some of the money that I lost. I live in Texas and have heard about this ''conditional gift'' but know nothing about it. The value of the ring excedes $6000 so I am unaware of my rights. Can someone please help me.

Wow! I hate the engagement ring issue.

The engagement ring is a promise to get married.

Did you both enter into contracts with the wedding providers?

Did you talk to him about the money you've spent? Does he agree to help pay these debts?

He can always sue you, but I don't know if he will prevail.

Who cancelled the engagement?
