Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Am I entitled to part of the equity in our home?

My husband and I have been married for 3 years. Lived together for a year before marraige. The house was purchased 2 years before I moved in. I have lived in it 4 of the 6 years. Since then, we refinanced the home. My name is on the deed. He wants to make the kids and I leave so that he can sell it. He says that because it was his before we were married, I am not entitled to anything.

If your name is on the deed then the title company will require you to sign the papers in order for them to issue a new title policy.

I strongly urge you to talk to an attorney before you move out of the house with the minor children.

I'm out sick but there are 2 other attorneys in the office - Mary Ann Harris and Judy Ritts -- that would be glad to quote you a price and meet with you.

Good luck!
