Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

What do I need to do?

My ex-boyfriend and I have a son together who is now over a year old. We are both joint managing conservators, but my son's father now wants to give up his parental rights and not have anything to do with either of us, which is fine by me. I need to know what I need to do to make this happen. It's an open and shut custody case.

Re: What do I need to do?

We would simply have to file a Petition to Terminate Parental rights and have the father sign a voluntary relinquishment.

It's not custody, but you need to have the father's parental rights terminated. It's a rather simple procedure, but requires you to hire an attorney to prepare the paperwork. The father will sign off on it and then the judge grants the application. With it, the father's parental rights terminate which means he no longer has any rights with regard to the children and also no longer has any obligations (i.e., child support).
