Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
My ex-husband is moving out of the country for at least two years. I am concerned about my children in the event something happens to me, which would leave them without a parent in the country. What is advisable in this scenario?

It is unusual but you can add a 3rd party as an additional "conservator" if both parents agree. I've done it in the past. However, once added you cannot remove them in the future - so be sure that you absolutely want this person to be a permanent fixture in their lives until they turn 18. I normally selected a parent or sibling to be the 3rd person. I normally did it when one parent is "absent" (drugs, homeless, mentally ill) or one parent was already dead or with a terminal illness.
Talk to an experienced family law attorney in your area to see how the judge would feel about doing it in your case. It is rather unusual but it's been done in Harris County Texas when circumstances were proven to a judge.
