My ex-wife has custody of our 9 year old son, she is moving in with her new mother in law, does this give me any new opportunities to gain custody of him.

I doubt it. It would have to do with the reason why she is moving. I assume her current husband is moving with her. I am also assuming she is moving within the same county as where she was before. If it is just a temporary arrangement for financial reasons, probably nothing you can do. You need to check the living situation. Will your son have his own room, etc.? Make sure you continue to exercise 100% of your visitation rights, otherwise it will be even more difficult to go after custody.
