Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My ex-wife left her furniture in my room and it's been two months. Does she still have a right to it? Can I keep it, sell it, or donate it?

What does your Final Decree of Divorce state?

Usually under the property division section, there is a section regarding "furniture".

You might want to write her a letter giving her a date to pick it up - say a month at 5:00 p.m.

(something specific like -- Sunday, _____, 2011, at 5:00 p.m.)

You might want to send it certified mail with a confirming copy sent by first class mail. Plus, I'd email and text her and keep copies of these too. If you get the certified copy back, keep it the way you got it -- do not open it. Keep all of your paperwork for 7 years (in a safe place) in case she sues you.

Or if you really want to be nice, just take it to her or to her parent's place and drop it off. If she does not have transportation, try to be a reasonable, responsible person.

Or, sell it and send her the money. Don't sell it for $1!

Be reasonable. It's the holiday season. Be nice.
