Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Get my father to a mental institiution
My father has been addicted to drugs and alchohol for many years. Recently my mother was sent to jail for a probation violation and since then my father has been acting insane. I am 17 but I graduated early, so I am going to school and working. My father has been trashing my room, harming my dog and verbally abusing me. He threatens me everyday. He has to be mentally ill from all the years of drugs. It has gotten so bad that I am afraid to be around him. I do not have anywhere to go, so I can't leave, is there anything I can do legally to get him away from me, but let me stay in the house until my Mother gets out of jail?

If he threatens you again, call the police. If he is acting irrational, he could hurt or kill you.
I take these threats very seriously! I've had 2 friends killed by people who were irrational at the time of the act.
If you feel threatened, call the local shelters. Start at the Woman's Center in Houston. Don't stop calling until someone helps you! there is a youth shelter in the Montrose Area but I can't remember the name right now.
If you have a family member, physican, former teacher, a minister, or any adult you trust -- PLEASE talk to them. You need help -- don't try to go this alone!
Good luck!
Be careful!

Call Children's Protective Services. They have the staff, including lawyers to help you. They can also direct you to a shelter for the interim so your Dad does not retaliate.
Re: Get my father to a mental institiution
You have been given excellent advice, so go ahead and take it. Resources are there. You might be able to be emancipated as a minor. Take the threats as true and serious. I had a friend with a fake pipe bomb on his doorstep and another with 5 bullets to his back. Scary people are very scary - I would hate to see in the news that you were the latest victim of insanity. Keep calling until someone listens. Get out of the house and into a shelter. I am sure that someone can take care of your dog.
Stay safe.
