Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Father's rights
I was young when my daughter was born. Her mother and I never married. I had contact with her as a newborn, then her mother decided to leave the state, leaving me no information where she was going. This was 17 years ago. I hired a private investigator when my daughter was 8 years old and found her. Her mother took off again leaving me no information. My mother has been at the same address for almost 15 years, and my daughter's mother has known how to get a hold of me, but never has. My daughter is now 17 almost 18 in a month and a half. Her mother is trying to just now get me to pay child support, after all this time, and after all these years of keeping my daughter away from me. What are my rights?

Re: Father's rights
The good news is that the TX legislature got tired of hearing about cases like yours. They have limited how far back the mother can go.
If you have never been declared to be the father of the child by a court, definately ask for DNA testing.
You definately need an attorney in your area to help you.
Don't agree to anything without talking to an attorney first.
